• How are hero and rebel defined in the dictionary?

• Is there a thin line between both?

• Can you think of examples of people who were both? Why?

A hero can be a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities, a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal, or even the principal character in a story, play, or film. A rebel can be a person who resists, rises in arms against the government or ruler of his or country, a person who resists any authority, control, or tradition.

But even if we can think that they are opposite, these two have o lot in common : both of them had made heroic acts, breaking rules and traditions, both of them fought for them ideas wanting to the present society, the world that they live,

There a lot of examples of people who were both of them: Martin Luther King fought against the racial exclusion, against the society that he were living in, becoming a hero for the oppressed and a rebel for the government. We can also cite Mahatma Gandhi, in India, or Zumbi, that lead the slave revolution here in Brazil during the XVI th century.

1 week work experience

I study in a bilingual school, here in Sao Paulo, that proposes an unique experience, during one week you can do a professional training at any enterprise you want. So, I choose an enterprise called Fnac, that made an enormous success in Europe, and arrived here in Brazil about 10 years ago. To tell the truth, I was very exited about all that, I couldn’t wait for the first day, I would also be with two friend of mine all the time.

So, the first day I arrived at 8 am, 1 hour before the store went to open to the public, and I had to enter, alone, by the employers entrance, a little hidden door, that leads to a very long and wiggly undergroud passage all built in cement, with a very week ilumination, there was also a lot of doors in the way and I couldn’t know in witch one I had to enter, so I have to admit that I was a little scared. Anyway, all the people that I knew were working there for atleest 3 years, so they were all ” friends”, and the atmosphere was very casual, even if they work at this big enterprise, and I wasn’t expecting for this.

The store is devided in several sectors, like music, computers and telefones, TV and cameras etc… So our time was devided in sectors, 3 hours per sector 1 hour for lunch, in one day we could only do 2 departments. I admit that sometimes it was a little boring and tiring, but without douts it was a very good experiece, people was very simpathic, and they help us a lot, we have learned many things that we couldn’t in school, we had a real work experience and that what’s all about, I realy enjoy it.

Cinema

Cinema is something that I apreciate a lot because I think that it’s a very a involving and subtle art which needs some knowledge to de understood. It seems very simple, or easy to judge a movie, but there are a lot of things that you can’t see the first, or second time you watch it.

If you take the place of a cinema director, you will see that you have a thousand possibilities in each scene. I often watch movies, quite a number: 2 or 3 films per week, and just now I started to understand the beauty of this art. I know that there are a lot of aspects there I obviously have not found out yet, and this what motivates me to continue learning about this.
